Another test drive done, and it was a surprising one.

I wasn’t even looking at Regals, but this GS came up on my radar and I thought I’d give it a go.

It’s a very, very good little car. It’s got all the pluses of the ATS, but it’s cheaper and has no CUE, which is a benefit. While it may not be as firm as the Cadillac, it’s definitely a fun drive.

TBH, I sort of like those, like I like the new TourX wagon. I want to give them a few years of reliability before I’d ever consider buying one. I had a bad experience with a GMC 25 years ago, and I keep waiting for GM to improve quality, but everything I read is seems that they come up short...

That is kind of out of left field, given your original list, and it’s a good one. It’s sensible, full-featured, practical, and affordable,  but with a nice dose of fun.

They made those as a wagon but I guess GM didn ’t like America enough to give us one.

Owned one of those very briefly. Had some issues, but it was really the dealer that made me decide to sell it after only a month and a half. For the little time I was actually able to drive it, though, it was great! A little sluggish off the line (turbo lag plus it's a porker), but once the turbo kicked in it gave a strong push. Very comfortable and quiet, but hit the GS button and it came alive.

It’s an improvement over the ats I suppose in terms of reliability, but with your budget, why do you keep looking at gm time bombs? There’s better choices in the same price range, unless this dealer is particularly desperate?

If you would pay any attention to my posts on this subject, you would understand why I’m looking at GM. Because I’m not a blind GM hater. Because my first car was a Cadillac, because I grew up in the back of a Colorado that’s nearing 200,000 miles.

If my dealer network would’ve had a post-refresh one of these with the 20 inch wheels like that one when I was car shopping , I wouldn’t own my GTI right now. I absolutely adore that generation of Regal, especially the GS.
